Easter is Coming!

Easter is my second favorite holiday (first being Christmas).  I get really excited seeing an abundance of bunnies, Spring florals, and all the pastel-colored Easter decorations in stores.  So, when March was here, I was already thinking about Easter in April.

This year, I am planning a Sunday brunch and egg hunt for a friend's April birthday.  I try to put together creative invitations for the events I plan.  For this one, I knew I wanted to use these large plastic eggs I purchased from Draeger's as my invitations.  Believe it or not, it was rather challenging to find QUALITY plastic eggs that comes empty inside; perhaps I was just being picky - but there are always standards!

I  had no direction as to how I would decorate these eggs; they were blank canvases.  I simply went to my local Jo-Ann and Michael's stores and browsed their aisles of craft supplies until I found decorations I liked and thought would work.  It helps greatly to have coupons!  Being the "bargain hunter" that I am, I searched the internet and found a printable coupon for 50% off one regular-priced item at Jo-Ann's, good through Wednesday, April 30th!  Did you know, Michael's accepts competitor coupons?!  In other words, this particular coupon will work at both Jo-Ann and Michael's stores for the entire month of April!  (Occasionally, Michael's offers a 50% as well, but their promotional period usually lasts only several days to a week.)

Initially, these were not the decorations I had in mind.  It takes trial and error to find the right design sometimes.  At first, I purchased a packet of Martha Stewart's white vellum butterfly stickers adorned with rhinestones and some white 3D scroll-patterned adhesives.  That did not work out too well.  The butterflies, which were two layers - bottom layer was the sticker and top later was the dimensional vellum butterfly, did not lay properly on the contours of the eggs.  The 3D scroll-patterned adhesives also did not stick completely to the contours of the egg due to their rigidness and size.

So I went back to the craft stores and searched for alternatives, and found the iridescent butterflies and 3D roses you see above.  I also purchased this thin gold ribbon which I thought would be lovely to conceal the edges where the two parts of the eggs come together.  This worked out beautifully since the gold ribbon and my wax seal makes the eggs resemble French limoges porcelain boxes; the bunny seal serving as the "latch" (my previous post about limoges here).

Inside the eggs, I gently placed a printed invitation and two mini chocolate treats from Lindt nestled on some iridescent Easter grass:

While I was shopping for Easter eggs, I found this adorable little Aurora bunny at Mollie Stone's in Burlingame.  Who would have thought in a market?!  Needless to say, I had to have her!
